"The Science Behind Old Wives Tales"

Guest Speaker: Dr. Lee Atkinson-McEvoy

As health care providers, we often get asked questions about commonly held beliefs and whether they are true.

Does chicken soup really cure a cold?
Can you safely eat food dropped on the floor with the five second rule?
Does stress of flying cause you to get sick?
Does alcohol increase breastmilk production?
Does Benadryl help children sleep?

Find out the truth and science behind them and impress your patients, loved ones, or the stranger on the street!

Learn and Earn 2 CE Units:

  • Review some commonly held beliefs about health and sickness
  • Explore the evidence that supports or refutes these commonly held beliefs
  • Review basic physiology of infection and disease transmission
  • Review basic pharmacology of medications
  • Review the historical perspectives of these beliefs
