Melanie Ansell is a business counselor through E-Magnify and a retired bank president and commercial lender. In this class, she will teach you how to understand financial statements. Melanie presents financial information in a way that makes it easy for participants to understand.
Topics will include:
- How to understand balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements
- What bankers look for
- How to understand your tax returns
- How to calculate your business cash flow
- How to determine if you are bankable
- How to get the Bank to say "Yes!"
If you would like to apply the information to your specific financials, bring a copy of your most recent federal tax return and follow along to calculate your current business financial position.

Melanie L. Ansell is an E-Magnify Business Consultant and the Manager for the ATHENAPowerLink Program for Southwestern PA. As a business consultant, Ansell utilizes more than 30 years of experience in banking to assist her clients in the creation of viable business plans and projections that attract an investor or lending institution. Her experience with thousands of businesses across a wide variety of industries brings a realistic approach to each client she works with.
As the Manager for the ATHENAPowerLink Program for Southwestern PA, Ansell is able to pull on her years of networking and business connections to build strong mentoring teams for her clients. Ansell takes personal satisfaction in seeing each of her clients grow in knowledge and profitability.

Ansell’s background includes positions as a lender, salesperson, trainer, and leader in the banking world. She held the position of Regional President at a local bank for six years of her 30-year banking career. Ansell is educated in loan packaging, cash flow projections, and SBA lending. She provides a creative approach to each and every client.
