2015-2016 Nursing Leadership Institute

When is the Nursing Leadership Institute being held?

The 2015-2016 Nursing Leadership Institute will be held over four days starting September 4, 2015 in Denver, CO. The additional Institute dates will be November 12 & 13 and February 5, 2016. NLI participants must attend all four days of the Institute, for the curriculum is integrated and builds on itself over time. Sessions will be held from 7:30 am – 4:30 pm and participants are expected to attend the entire day.  There is an administrative fee of $150 to attend the 2015-2016 NLI.  This fee covers administrative expenses including breakfast, lunch and snack that are not covered by HRSA funding.

What will I learn in this course?

For detailed information on the NLI content and curriculum, click here. In general, the goal is to provide CHC nurses with significantly increased knowledge of their own leadership style/strengths, knowledge of specific leadership and communication strategies, and increased skills in working with interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) teams in CHC settings. The four days of the Institute will cover a range of leadership subjects and skills, and will be presented by expert faculty in a variety of teaching styles and presentation formats, including group activities, role playing, team exercises and more.

Who should attend this course?

This course is for Community Health Center (CHC) nurses who have an associates, baccalaureate or graduate professional nursing degree.

What will I need to do to prepare and expect during NLI?

Check your email for updates.  Participants will be responsible for completing the following items during the course.

  1. Complete a DISC personal profile assessment.
  2. Read a short book "Influence" by Robert Cialdini.
  3. Complete an Emotional Intelligence assessment.
  4. Check email for updates.

Homework items will be sent to participants at least two weeks before workshop starts. Also, there will be minimal homework assignments on each day of the workshop.  During the year of the Institute (September 2015-June 2016), ongoing coaching by the Center staff will be provided and a capstone project will be implemented.

Nursing Leadership Institute Registration and Financial Policies

The administration fee for the NLI workshop will be $150. Registration is not considered complete until payment is received.  The due date for payment will be one week before the workshop.  If payment has not been received by that date, the registration will be released.  If payment is received in the last week AND there is space available the participant may join the class.  If payment has not been received by the day of the class, the participant will not be allowed to attend, even if space is available. Cancellation that occurs less than 30 days but before the first day of the course will incur a $25 cancellation fee.

Attendance

Participants must be present for all hours of the Institute.  For a “no-show” or if a participant misses more than 2 hours, they will not be allowed to continue in the NLI.  There will be no partial make-up arrangements made and no refund of tuition funds will occur.
