Family Academy's Outdoor School                                        Sept 10-13, 2015 for Homeschool Families           "Ocian* in view" - Lewis & Clark in the Pacific NW                                                                                                                          *  = Clark's spelling in his journal     

Kids (and adults) get excited about history when they can learn it through hands-on experiences, the lives of influential people, and field studies; and the Pacific Northwest offers great locations to upclose and personal examination of American history and culture.  

Lewis&ClarkoceanDon't miss this opportunity to help your students pique their historical curiosity and grow their appreciation of the  Lord's providential guidance in the development of the United States through this great family learning adventure.  PLUS -- enjoy a great time at the beach before the "homeschool year" starts.

Itinerary (tentative):   

  • Sept 10 - Fort Clatsop to experience the daily life of the Corps of Discovery while in the Pacific NW
  • Sept 11 -  Lewis & Clark @ Cape Disappointment & Seaside
  • Sept 12 - Fort Stevens & Cannon Beach
  • Sept 13 - Astoria & local historical sites near the Columbia River.
      Each day will include hands-on interactive learning activities for all ages.

Cost:  $60/family if registered by 8/20 or $75/family after 8/20; for an individual student traveling with another family (one other than their own): $30/individual if registered by 8/17 or $40/individual after 8/20 (if more than one student is attending with another family, register under the family rate but designate the supervising adult/family).  Registration closes on Friday, Sept 4  or when our spaces fill up!!     Note:  Additional individual family costs (i.e. travel, food, and lodging) will also include Lewis&ClarkOcean state parks fees (approx $20/per family for the 4 days).

Pre-trip packet:  information, pre-trip readings and links plus pre & post trip activities for students applying this to course work for high school credit will be emailed by 8/20 0r upon receipt of registration after 8/20.
