When performing work under a government contract, whether as a prime or a lower-tier subcontractor, the costs billed are being paid by a federal government agency. With that in mind, the timesheet becomes a legal document and a source document in the payment process. When an employee signs their timesheet, they are certifying that the charges on their timesheet are accurate and correct. Falsifying a timesheet is a federal offense and subject to criminal charges.
