Creating Beautiful Alpine Containers
with Richie Steffen

Looking for a unique container garden? Richie Steffen, Curator of the famed Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden in Seattle, will show you how to combine weathered wood, rustic stone and dwarf and slow growing plants into a miniature mountain scene that will thrive in any garden.

Richie has been making container gardens, including table top gardens, for over ten years by weaving dwarf conifers, alpines, ferns and creeping ground covers through carefully placed stone and weathered wood to create a miniature woodland scene that will fit perfectly on anyone’s patio.

About the instructor:
Richie Steffen is one of the few who turned his budding passion as a youngster into a career as well as a noted Pacific Northwest horticultural personality. As curator for the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden he oversees the Garden, rare plant collections, and heads acquisition of unique new plants. His knowledge and enthusiasm for plants is contagious – you, too, will learn from his entertaining lectures and, before you know it, your garden will be filled with captivating new plants!

About the Elisabeth C. Miller Bontanical Garden:
The highly maintained Miller Botanical Garden takes horticulture to a new level. Located on high bluffs overlooking Puget Sound, just north of Seattle, the five acre garden provides interest to delight the eye all year long.  The complex plantings and select plant materials are to encourage others to look beyond the ordinary and challenge their skills as gardeners.  One of the Miller Garden's most popular educational programs is Great Plant Picks where an extensive list of over 900 plants is maintained and recommended for gardens in the maritime Pacific Northwest.
