Human Resource Lunch: FMLA and Employee Absences          June 11, 2015 | Bangor, ME

The Labor and Employment Group at Drummond Woodsum invites you to a Human Resource Lunch Program

Thursday, June 11, 2015
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (networking begins at 11:45 AM)

Family Medical Leave Act in the Workplace:

Your Responsibilities as an Employer

As an HR practitioner and business leader, you play an essential role in your organization to ensure compliance with state and federal family and medical leave requirements, and to prevent and defend against family medical leave issues.  It is important that you understand your organization's legal obligations to provide leave under the federal Family Medical Leave Act as well as the Maine Family Medical Leave statute.

This lunch is designed to go beyond the basics and help you analyze difficult leave requests and understand what laws, issues, and problems you may encounter.  In addition, we will discuss what your managers and supervisors must know about medical leave requests and managing employee absences.

Take home practical advice on steps you can take to ensure compliance with job-protected leave, while managing the difficulties associated with leave requests.

Topics include:

  • Tips regarding determination of leave eligibility, designation, notice requirements and return to work
  • Intermittent leave
  • Leave abuse and discipline
  • The interplay between FMLA/Maine FML, your policies and other state and federal employment laws

Drummond Woodsum's Labor and Employment Group will review the issues and key details of the law in order to help your organization comply with its important obligation to provide leave for employees under federal and state medical leave laws.

We look forward to seeing you.
