In 2015 the Miami Beach Botanical Garden is offering the only summer day camp for children ages 8 to 12 that exclusively focuses on environmental stewardship and art appreciation.
Students will learn about their connection to the web of life on Earth in this three-week summer program where each week a special guest speaker will educate the class on a different eco/art-related topic.
Children will then instill what they’ve learned by expressing themselves through three weekly art projects using various mediums including plant materials from the Garden and recycled objects.
Days are broken up with a short yoga session to develop mindfulness skills, encourage playfulness and individuality, strengthen student/student relationships, and introduce children to relaxation techniques they can use their entire lives.
In addition to their individual projects, the class will collaborate on a large-scale group sculpture at the Garden, which will demonstrate the power of cooperation. When students work together to create something larger than themselves, each person learns how their individual actions can help or hinder the health of our planet.
