Labor and Delivery Orientation Workshop

 

This comprehensive workshop will be offered to a small group of newly employed nurses who do not have previous experience as Labor and Delivery nurses.

The vision is that this workshop will dovetail with the existing orientation program within individual agencies.

The workshop will be a total of eight weeks in length. The dates are July 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 27, August 10, 17, 24, 31. Participants will be required to have significant study time available, particularly during the first two weeks. Specific study dates are: July 7, 9, 12, 14 and 16 when participants may not be scheduled for participation in agency orientation.

This workshop is intended for highly motivated nurses who wish to be actively involved in their own professional development. The expectation is that participants will attend all of the dates identified above from 7:00 – 5:00 each day at the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence, 5290 E. Yale Circle, Denver. There will be significant non-class time required to prepare for the face to face sessions that will be comprised of application level, active participation from participants. 

The above dates will be divided between classroom time (mostly discussion, case studies, group work) and simulation. A portion of the simulation time will be high fidelity simulation; the rest will be spent in reflection and a number of exercises that will build the expertise for the novice L&D nurse. 

Participants are expected to attend the entire workshop, please carefully read the registration and financial policies below.  

 The fee for the workshop is $1960, subject to the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence's policies, and will cover all meals.  Students who complete all 96 hours of the workshop will be eligible to receive nursing Contact Hours^**.  All students will be required to buy their own 2 textbooks for homework: The Intrapartum Management Modules: A Perinatal Education Program by Margaret Kennedy (4th Edition), and AWHONN's Perinatal Nursing (4th Edition) by Kathleen Simpson and Patricia Creehan (both are paperbacks).  The most economic site we have found for both textbooks is Amazon- http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/078178168X/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Registration is not considered complete until payment is received.  The due date for payment will be four weeks before the workshop.  If payment has not been received by that date, registration will be released.  Workshop content will not be released until registration, including payment, is complete.   

Cancellation

Cancellation for any reason that occurs more than 30 days from the first day of the workshop will result in a 100% refund.  This is the only situation in which a refund will be permitted.

Attendance

The expectation is that participants must be present for the entire workshop.  There will be no partial make-up arrangements made.
