German Cuisine

Where many of your American favorite Foods actually came from. Many dishes that we think of as American Foods got their start in Germany, Meatloaf, Deviled Eggs, Hot Dogs (frankfurters, bratwurst), Hamburgers (bouletten), and many more.

Traditional German cooking is often thought of as being very hearty and rich with an emphasis on meat and potatoes, some say heavy, but it is tasty and delicious.

*JAGER SCHNITZEL – It means “hunter’s cutlets” in German, and the dish was originally made with venison or wild boar backstrap, pounded thin. It is now made with generally with pork cutlet or sometimes with veal cutlet, served with a mushroom gravy and KARTOFFELKLOESSE or SPAETZLE or LEICHER KARTOFFELSAL  or KARTOFFELPUFFER or Kartoffelpüree -mashed potatoes. The Chicken fried steak is believed to be an outgrowth of this dish brought to the USA by German immigrants.
