Mentor Training Institute Workshop for Nurse Mentors October 29-30, 2015

With the overall goal of increasing diversity in the nursing workforce the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence has designed a workshop for mentors to develop the necessary skills to build effective mentoring relationships.

Key skills required to be effective mentors will be taught in this two day workshop. Mentors attending this workshop will be expected to mentor a nursing student from a racial and ethnic minority group* for one year. For this mentoring program, BSN, MSN, PhD or DNP nurses from a racial and ethnic minority groups are preferred and encouraged to attend this workshop, however the workshop is open to all nurses interested in becoming mentors. Space is limited.

Participants are expected to attend both days of the workshop.  Participants in this workshop will sign agreements to mentor a nursing student from a racial and ethnic minority group for one year. This commitment includes monthly mentoring sessions with the mentee, one hour monthly group coaching session for mentors and one additional evening educational session within the year.

When and where is the Workshop being held? Thursday, October 29th and Friday, October 30th from 8:00-4:30 each day. The workshop location will be in the Denver metro area and specific venue location is yet to be determined.

There is an administrative fee of $50 to attend.  This fee is to cover material expenses excluded from grant funds.  Breakfast, lunch and snack will be provided each day.
