NAATBatt International to
Present Two Workshops on Storage at
Intersolar North America

Intersolar North America is the most attended solar trade show in North America.  Over 17,000 attendees are expected this year.  Electricity storage is a subject of growing interest in the solar PV community. NAATBatt International has teamed with Intersolar North America to develop programming on issues critical to the adoption of storage technology by solar PV developers.

This year, NAATBatt International will produce two workshops intended to give solar PV developers, integrators and advocates a detailed understanding of two specific issues that will be critical to the deployment of solar-storage technology:  the safety of behind-the-meter battery storage systems and optimizing policy initiatives to support solar-storage.

Both workshops will be held on Tuesday, July 14 on Level 3 of the Mascone Center, the safety workshop in the morning and the policy workshop in the afternoon.  The cost of the workshops is $200 each.  Attendees may register for either or for both.

Morning Workshop

"Inside-the-Meter Storage System Safety"

Tuesday, July 14, 2015
Moscone Center West,  Level 3, Room 3010
San Francisco, CA
10:00 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.

Tesla Energy's launch of its new Powerwall product for installation in residential properties attracted massive attention in the media. Attracting substantially less attention was the decision by several potential Tesla competitors not to enter the residential electricity storage market because of liability concerns. It is one thing to put a high voltage lithium-ion battery in a utility substation, on a windfarm, or even in a car.  It may be quite another to put one in a home, a high rise apartment building or a shopping center.

How safe is it to put high voltage lithium-ion batteries in public places where quick egress cannot be assured? Attend the inside-the-meter safety workshop to understand what the risks really are, how industry is addressing them, how regulators are addressing them, and how installers are dealing with them.

If you are thinking of installing a storage system behind-the-meter in conjunction with a solar PV array, your customers will be asking you about safety.  This workshop is designed to give you the answers.

Afternoon Workshop

"Optimizing Policy Initiatives to Promote Solar-Storage"

Tuesday, July 14, 2015
Moscone Center West,  Level 3, Room 3010
San Francisco, CA
1:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Government incentives have been critical in promoting the growth of the solar PV industry and the development of advanced battery technologies. But times are changing. The ITC expires next year.  Renewable energy industry participants and advocates must come up with new ideas for how best to use the power of government to promote the deployment of solar PV and energy storage on the grid.

Our ask of government must be focused. Approximately 39 energy bills are now pending in Congress incorporating a host of different ideas to promote renewable energy. Few of those bills will become law.  And if renewable energy industry participants and advocates do not present a coherent message to government about what they really want--and need--none of them will.

The purpose of this workshop is to learn about the sometimes radically different approaches being taken by Congress, the FERC, individual states, the ISO's and various utilities to promote solar-storage technology. But its more important purpose is to listen to you. The workshop will try to get industry participants to agree upon a prioritized "wish list" of programs and incentives that renewable energy advocates and industry lobbyists can act upon.

If you are interested in helping to create a coherent government relations plan for renewables and storage, please attend this interactive workshop. We need to hear from you.
