Highland City Club presents:
Rocky Flats: A Detective Story,
by Harvey Nichols, Ph.D.

Tuesday, June 23rd
12:00pm - 1:30pm

How the DOE triggered an investigation by an innocent CU professor into environmental problems that matter to us all and will long outlive us.  Official lack of technical foresight, poor critical thinking, outdated secrecy, all combined to produce a legacy of medical implications and possible impacts on economic development.  A personal saga of unintended political involvement arising from esoteric technical knowledge and an immigrant’s wish to repay his community.

Harvey Nichols, Emeritus Professor of Biology, worked at University of Colorado – Boulder for forty years, after positions at Yale (Biology) and U-Wisconsin - Madison (Meteorology).  Harvey got involved with Rocky Flats in 1975, when he began tracking pollen drifts around the site, and testing for airborne transport of radioactive material. British born and educated, he works primarily on arctic paleo-ecology, past and present responses of arctic ecosystems to ancient and modern climatic changes, in northern Canada and arctic Siberia.
