2015 Focus Group #1: Stewardship Coordinators
Have you ever read a job announcement for a Stewardship Coordinator? The scope of the position often reads something like this:
Responsibilities include: coordinating the land trust’s conservation easement stewardship, monitoring, reporting and information systems; cultivating landowner relations and resolving violations; overseeing fee land management, including events, preserve neighbor relationships, and community engagement; organizing volunteer work parties; participating in training opportunities; and creating and maintaining records and maps.
PS: This is a volunteer position!
Sound familiar? If you are a land trust stewardship coordinator, then the phrase “doing it all” likely rings loud and clear!
On behalf of the Connecticut Land Conservation Council (CLCC), we invite you to explore these and other responsibilities of a Land Trust Stewardship Coordinator at CLCC’s 2015 Summer Focus Group, the latest in a series of consultant-led roundtables for Connecticut land trust officers, board members and committee chairs held annually each summer.
Who Should Attend: This year’s focus group will be for any officers, board members, committee chairs, staff or others in your land trust who focus on Stewardship.
Purpose: The purpose of the CLCC Summer Focus Group Series is twofold: (i) to provide peer-to-peer networking for a group of individuals serving in a similar capacity in diverse land trusts who otherwise might not get the opportunity to meet and talk; and (ii) to gather information and gain a better understanding of how Connecticut’s land trusts use their boards, staff and volunteers to increase organizational capacity.
Goal: Ultimately we hope to be able to draw conclusions and make recommendations regarding the successes and challenges of land trusts in their volunteer recruitment, as well as the human resource needs of land trusts in order to improve their capacity. We will be producing a written report and will present our findings at the 2015 Connecticut Land Conservation Conference in March.
Food? Of course!: Breakfast snacks and light summer lunch will be provided. Space is limited to 25 participants.
Cost: Registration is FREE for CLCC members and $25 for non-members.
Please direct any questions to me at abpaterson@ctconservation.org. We hope you will join us for this important initiative and look forward to receiving your reply.
Very truly yours,
Amy B. Paterson, Executive Director
PS: Because the scope of responsibilities for stewardship coordinators is so broad, participants will be asked to prioritize discussion topics in advance of the roundtable to ensure that we are addressing the issues -- both with respect to conservation easements and fee lands -- that are of most interest to you and your land trust.

CLCC Member: Free
Non-CLCC Member: $25
