DISPATCH: HUNGER
R
ally & Summer Meals Service Project Blitz,
hosted by NYCCAH

In our country today, 1 in 6 people struggles to put nutritious food on their table (46.2 million Americans); 1 in 5 children does not have enough to eat (16 million kids). This summer DISPATCH is standing up for a shared belief that food is a basic human right and that increasing access to food and economic resources is what gives people the power to exercise that right.

In anticipation of DISPATCH’s return to Madison Square Garden this July 10 and 11, we’ve got events lined up all weekend where you can learn more about hunger in the United States and take direct action in support of programs and policies that work to fight hunger in NYC and your home community. Together, we will stand up for a shared belief that food is a basic human right and that increasing access to food and economic resources is what gives people the power to exercise that right.

Did you know it takes just $0.25 cents to feed a New Yorker? Your spare change can make a difference.
Don't forget to download the SPARE app to automatically round up on your dine out purchases to support local hunger relief efforts while you're in NYC. Stay tuned for a list of establishments where giving back in support of DISPATCH: HUNGER can help you earn you free drinks and discounts!

Join DISPATCH: HUNGER and take action against hunger in New York City!
We'll be at the Brooklyn Public Library (Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY) for a rally celebrating the campaign and service project to take direct action to fight hunger in New York City. We’ll have community leaders and band members present to speak about the issue and how your participation helps!

Volunteers will spend the afternoon before Saturday's sold out show at Madison Square Garden in a “Summer Meals Blitz,” working throughout the five boroughs to promote and educate community members about summer meal programs and neighborhood sites. Volunteers will help to ensure that members of the community are aware of their existence and increase the utilization of the program.

Tentative schedule

10:30AM Volunteer arrival, check-in and onsite registration
11:00AM Kick-off Rally
12:00PM Service project starts
3:00PM Service ends

Registration costs $10/per person and helps us cover the cost of permits, clean up, snacks and supplies. No one will be turned away from the volunteer opportunity due to financial need so please email dispatchhunger@callingallcrows.org to get signed up.

Note that Summer Meals sites are scattered throughout the five boroughs, and some may require more travel time than others. We have allowed for this in our schedule, but please let us know your preferred location when you register. We will assign locations based on preference as well as need.

By registering or making a donation in support of DISPATCH: HUNGER you will also be entered in a raffle for a chance to join a Meet & Greet with the band before the show! Every registration will be counted separately--the more you do the better your chances at winning!

About the campaign
DISPATCH: HUNGER strives to make hunger visible in our country, transform the way we think about fighting hunger, and increase access for all. Through fan engagement, awareness-building events and fundraising initiatives, we aim to inspire a citizen movement to join a broad-based social movement that works to end hunger through combating the root causes of poverty, inequality and injustice.

Hunger is a major concern for a substantial number of American families. A number of economic factors contribute to income inequality and make it difficult for people to adequately feed themselves and their families, forcing growing numbers to rely on public and private assistance programs. 14.3 percent of all households – 17.5 million households or 46.2 million people – are "food insecure" the U.S. government's term for categorizing those who are hungry or at risk of hunger. Together, we will stand up for a shared belief that food is a basic human right and that increasing access to food and economic resources is what gives people the power to exercise that right.
