Expanding Binational Prosperity
The SR 11/Otay East Port of Entry 

SMPS San Diego is proud to announce that our July speaker is Mario Orso, Project Manager for the State Route 11/Otay Mesa East Port of Entry (POE) Project.

Multiple agencies on both sides of the border have collaborated since 2013 to promote economic growth in the United States and Mexico. The goal – create jobs for citizens in both countries and ensure that both nations are able to compete globally. The SR 11/Otay Mesa East POE undertaking will contribute toward that goal by helping to improve capacity and reduce wait times for commercial and personal vehicles crossing the border.

SANDAG, Caltrans and a number of local, state and federal agencies in the US and Mexico have been working to expedite the construction of the POE, hoping to retake the BILLIONS of dollars in foregone economic output. This flagship POE will incorporate state of the art technologies to help manage demand and ensure border security. This includes detection systems, alert capabilities and variable toll rates that will manage the demand for the crossing.
