2015 Webinar Series:

Treatment Strategies for Self-Regulation in Children

Presented by:
Silke Plesch, MA, LMHC

Thursday, August 13, 2015
12:00pm - 1:30pm EST

Webinars are online presentations geared towards professionals. Participants who call in live have the opportunity to participate in a question/answer session with the speaker. All registrants, regardless of live attendance, receive a download of the recorded webinar following the presentation.

This presentation will focus on goal oriented treatment of children who struggle with sensory integration and mental health issues.  We will discuss treatment strategies to help children regulate themselves by using sensory interventions. Addressing self-regulation in children requires therapists to have a self-regulatory framework that guides treatment. This framework includes the intentional awareness of the therapist's experience in the treatment room. This webinar will provide strategies and tools for working effectively from a sensory integration and mental health perspective.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar participants will be able to:

  1. Identify effective treatment goals for self-regulation in children.
  2. Identify ways to self-regulate before meeting dysregulated children.
  3. Name treatment strategies based on brain principles and attachment theory.
  4. Recognize how to use body-oriented strategies to self-regulate more quickly.

About the Speaker: Silke Plesch, MA, LMHC is a licensed mental health counselor who specializes in families and individuals who have experienced trauma.  She is trained in solution-focused, sensorimotor approaches, and attachment issues. The Adult/Adolescent Sensory History is available now!

The culmination of years of research and work, the Adult/Adolescent Sensory History, is designed as a self-report assessment of sensory and motor behaviors commonly observed in individuals with difficulties processing and integrating sensory information. The purpose of this assessment is to help identify adults and adolescents ages 13 to 95 who experience problems in sensory processing and integration as well as assist therapists in clinical reasoning when creating interventions for these individuals. Based on the conceptual model of sensory processing and sensory integration proposed by A. Jean Ayres, this measure is designed to identify difficulties in five key areas of functioning: Sensory Discrimination, Sensory Modulation, Postural-Ocular Skills, Praxis, and Social-Emotional Functioning.
