 Developing Allies with David Hall

Description: 3 part Ally Development series hosted by David Hall, author of "Allies at Work: Creating a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Inclusive Work Environment "

Details:
Duration: Three 75 minute webinars

Session Topics:

*Session 1 - Allies and Changing Corporate Culture - The nature of heterosexual privilege is that one never has to come out as it is already assumed. For those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, coming out and being out creates a unique set of challenges in the workplace. The ways in which we treat our fellow employees when they come out as well as the ways in which we support them in the stages of being out are critical to creating an open and affirming work environment in which employees can bring their whole selves to work. This workshop will make some of the most pertinent research accessible and applicable to managing coming out and being out at work.

*Session 2 - Trans Inclusion in Ally Engagement - There are an increasing number of transgender people coming out and transitioning in the workplace, and with this comes unique challenges for engaged allies.  Proactive planning on the part of companies can help to ensure that their transgender employees feel safe and supported in their workplace, and that the company is in compliance with local and state ordinances that protect transgender individuals in the workplace.  This workshop blends a "transgender 101" with specific applications to the corporate climate, and helps allies act where they are needed most.

*Session 3 - Case Studies in Ally Engagement - Once we have allies engaged in the workplace, too many employee resource groups don’t know what to do with their allies. The reality is that there are a wide array of options, but we need to plan effectively for it. This session will work with employee resource groups to examine the diverse options for ally engagement. We will compare and contrast different models that we can use to engage allies to create meaningful change in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender inclusion.
