Advocacy for Rookies - Spokane

What is an advocate?  And how do you actually do this work?

We are excited to present this fast-paced two-day course for brand-new advocates, with facilitators Deadria Boyland and Tyra Lindquist.

Whether you volunteer or are paid, you work in a shelter or a community office, you do system-based advocacy or community organizing for prevention, if you are new to this work, this training is for you.

We'll cover:

  • Understanding DV dynamics
  • Survivor-centered advocacy practice
  • Practical day-to-day skills
  • Trauma-informed services and trauma stewardship
  • and more

The total Advocacy for Rookies training includes:

  • 7 hours of online coursework prior to the training
  • 14 hours of in-person training, August 13 & August 14
  • 2-hour follow-up webinar October 14, 2015

Coffee and tea will be available in the mornings and lunch will be provided each day.

Online Registration deadline: August 1st, 2015

Deadline to request interpreters: July 23rd, 2015

Schedule:

1st day: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (check-in opens at 8:30 a.m.)
2nd day: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Registration Fee:

  • WSCADV Member Programs: 1 FREE participant; additional participants $100 each
  • WSCADV Associate Members: $100 each
  • Non-Members: $200 each

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park (509)777-6300. The room block is listed under Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and rooms are offered at the government per diem rate of $88 + tax single/double. Deadline to reserve a room is July 22, 2015.

You are responsible for making your own reservations and paying for the room.
