Oblate Sunday includes the novice class led by Brother Stanislaw, O.S.B. and the oblate class led by Abbot Isaac, O.S.B. Everyone is invited to both classes. The day begins with Mass at 10:00 am and ends at 2:30 pm which is the end of the oblate class.
"Oblate" comes from a word meaning offering to God. Oblates seek God, live simply, avoid worldly distractions, and strive for the ancient Benedictine balance of prayer, work, reading, and listening to God. Oblates follow the monastic Rule of Saint Benedict as their state in life allows.
The oblates of Saint Leo Abbey are taught by the abbot and a Benedictine monk during monthly oblate conferences held on the first Sunday of the month. The program is a path to deeper spiritual peace.
