Session Description                                                                                                                                           Are you aware of your own organization’s transportation access barriers or opportunities? Do you inform your audiences of the various transit modalities they might use to get to your arts event? What are the travel-trends of your audience, staff, volunteers, and board members? What are the benefits of multimodal travel, and how can your organization encourage, reward, or acknowledge transportation accessibility?

The Transit for Livable Communities will present a ½ day workshop where we will discuss these and other transportation access topics. The later portion of the day will include a sample transit audit, where we will take the Green Line LRT to Snelling Avenue, and walk a few blocks to a series of outdoor murals in progress (Midway Murals). Afterwards, we will reflect on the access and barrier points we experienced. Please wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes.

Presenter Bios                                                                                                                                               Hilary Reeves Strategic Advancement and Communications Director, manages media relations, fundraising, and a new program, Transportation Leadership Certification, to establish transportation best practices and certify nonprofit transportation leaders. She has managed communications for transportation funding campaigns (e.g., Transit for a Stronger Economy) and managed communications and outreach for the multi-year federal Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program Bike Walk Twin Cities. Prior to joining Transit for Livable Communities in January 2010, she worked in publishing as Managing Director at Milkweed Editions and as Sales and Marketing Director at Johns Hopkins University Press and Smithsonian Institution Press. She has contributed regular pieces on bicycling, walking, and transit for the Southwest and Downtown Journals. The new Green Line LRT has been a bit too convenient, in that she’s bicycling less, but perhaps walking more.

Erin Kindell joined Transit for Livable Communities in September 2014 as a member of the Minnesota GreenCorps program. In this role, Erin helps facilitate TLC’s Transportation Options workshops and partner program and assists with outreach and program development for our Transportation Leadership Certification pilot to establish transportation best practices among nonprofits. She also helps coordinate our monthly bicycle and pedestrian webinar series and assists with planning other TLC events. Erin holds a Bachelor of Design in Architecture and a Sustainability Studies minor from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She loves biking and walking around the lakes and neighborhoods in Minneapolis and enjoys reading on the Green Line on the way to work.
