Light of the Dark Night Retreat

One of the staples of Rhythm of Grace is our insistence that the spiritual discipline of retreat is essential for our well being. Retreats are times to push away for a short bit of time to focus on listening for the voice of God. “The purpose of a spiritual retreat is to redirect our gaze on God, to listen to the Creator in order to find renewal and redirection in our lives.” Elizabeth Canham

There are all kinds of retreats to help redirect our gaze. September 18-20 we will be offering a teaching retreat we are calling Light of the Dark NightEveryone who follows Jesus as a disciple will encounter dry seasons in their ability to sense God and hear his voice. These seasons have been called a desert, hitting a wall, dry times, dark nights, or disengagements from God's presence. Do you know that these seasons are essential to spiritual development? Do you know why and how God wants to use them for your benefit? There are a lot of confusing thoughts about these dark or dry seasons; are they a result of poor choices on our part or something initiated by God? How do we know the difference between what John of the Cross called God’s initiative; “the dark night of the sense” verses the consequences to our own disobedience? This retreat will show how each are means of grace toward our spiritual formation and how we might discern between the two.

This retreat is being held at the Youthfront, La Cygne Community Retreat Center. The retreat begins on a Friday evening at 7:00 PM and concludes Sunday around 11:00 AM. Cost for the retreat (unless otherwise specified) is $200 which covers private lodging with towels and linens, all meals, and any retreat materials. We do offer a 2 for 1 deal which allows you to register and pay for a retreat and then bring a friend along for free. Just notify us of your friend’s name. In some cases the 2 for 1 option will require you and your friend to share lodging.

CAN'T MAKE THE OVERNIGHT RETREAT? COME FOR DAY!! Come out Saturday, September 19, for a day retreat for $75.00 which includes lunch and dinner, teaching on the topic of Light of the Dark Night, as well as some space during the afternoon for quiet reflection in silence and solitude. We begin at 9:45 AM and will conclude by 9:00 PM.

I hope you will consider this opportunity to spend time nourishing your soul. Retreats like this offer a wonderful experience of quiet, refreshment, mental and heart challenge, and slowing.
