From Learning to Impact: Training to Work with Trafficked and Commercially Sexually Exploited Youth

Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS) will host its bi-annual training on Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and domestic trafficking in New York City. Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Rachel Lloyd will lead this two-day training event as we explore working with youth exploited in the commercial sex industry.

This nationally recognized training course on CSE will provide attendees with a strong knowledge base of the commercial sex industry in America and the 300,000 youth who are at risk for commercial sexual exploitation.

Topics include unpacking the notion of 'choice', risk factors that make youth vulnerable, the impact of CSE, stockholm syndrome and trauma bonding, as well as identification and engagement techniques for working with CSE youth. This training is specifically designed to provide registrants with a superior level of knowledge around the issue of CSE and domestic trafficking. Registrants will receive concrete tools to appropriately respond to CSE and domestically trafficked youth.

Cost

The cost includes registration, as well as breakfast and lunch for both training days; and a comprehensive Training Manual on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), written by Rachel Lloyd in collaboration with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Programs (OJJDP).

Early Bird Rate (offered through 8/21) $549

Training Registration (after 8/21) $599

Technical Assistance

On October 1st and 2nd, following the two-day training, GEMS will offer additional Full-Day Technical Assistance (TA) sessions. These Full-Day TA sessions will be specifically designed by GEMS staff to address your agency's unique program challenges and needs.

TA sessions are held at GEMS and are specifically designed to meet the needs of your organization. GEMS provides TA to agencies seeking issue-specific support. Topics addressed through TA may include, but are not limited to: Designing CSE-specific housing programs; designating shelter beds to CSE youth; the role of youth development and survivor leadership in programming; and running groups for CSE youth. This TA also includes a tour of the GEMS drop-in center.

This TA option is highly beneficial for organizations working specifically with CSE youth, or if you are looking to open up a facility to work with this population of youth. There are limited spaces available for the TA sessions, and we do require preparation time, so we ask that you do not wait until the event to sign up for this option.

Full-Day TA Cost: $1,500

Register soon to receive the early bird rate. Space is limited!
