5:00pm-6:00pm                               The Differential Diagnosis of Headaches. Headaches that present to an eye doctor include migraine, facial pain syndromes, and pair associated with cranial neuropathies, orbital, and ocular disease. Some headaches are symptoms of medical emergencies, placing the eye doctor in the front line of their recognition and management.  In this course we will categorize pain syndromes into migraines, facial pain with or without Horner’s Syndrome, and headaches associated with other cranial nerve involvement. Intraocular findings may be manifestation of both ocular and systemic pathology.  The goal is to present the most common and the most ominous headache presentations. COPE: 39110-GO Rich Mangan, OD

This course will discuss the unique formulation of triamcinolone acetate and moxifloxacin that is administered intra-vitreously during routine cataract surgery, thereby eliminating the need for post-operative drops, and hence concerns over patient non-compliance.  This course will discuss the peri-ocular use of this compounded medication including pearls in patient education. Clearly one of the most challenging aspects of private practice, managing your cash flow can have an impact not only on your business, but also your personal happiness and well-being. Here we’ll address the many aspects of managing your cash flow, how the most successful companies use positive cash flow to their advantage, and strategies to ensure you are taking the right steps to protect your cash flow. Also, ever wonder about all those financial statements that your accountant prepares every year? We’ll explore and simplify the three most important financial statementsthat financial experts use to evaluate a business: The Income Statement; the Balance Sheet; and the Cash Flow Statement. Business Analytics For Your Practice. Successful businesses follow a structured financial plan for both projecting income and anticipating expenses, yet many small businesses, and most independent optometric practices, don’t utilize a budget to manage their finances. We’ll explore the importance of creating a budget, why most OD’s don’t follow (or even create) a budget, the steps to create your own budget, and strategies to help you stick with it. It is often said, “that which is measured, improves”. Smart businesses rely on performance measurement information to help chart progress of their business. In this talk, we’ll discuss the most important business metrics to managing the current health and progress of your optometric business, goal setting and team compensation strategies. Speakers

Ben Gaddie, OD  Dr. Gaddie serves on the editorial boards of Review of Optometry, Optometric Management, Primary Care Optometry News and Optometry Times.  He was inducted into the Oklahoma Pioneers in Optometry Hall of Fame in 2011. Dr. Gaddie proudly runs Gaddie Eye Centers, which has been a locally-owned, family-operated practice since its inception by his father, Dr. Bruce Gaddie, over 40 years ago. He is President of the Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS), Chair of the AOA Continuing Education Committee, and Past President of the Kentucky Optometric Association. 

 

  Rich Mangan, OD, FAAO  Dr. Mangan has over 24 years of managing medical, surgical and refractive eye care in Indiana and Kentucky.  He is widely published and has lectured extensively throughout the country and has been heavily involved with clinical studies. He is a member of the editorial board for the Review of Optometry, and is a member of the AOA, AAO, KOA, Optometric Council on Refractive Technology and the Ocular Surface Society in Optometry.  Dr. Mangan graduated from ICO in 1991. 

 

  Mick Kling, OD   Kling is owner and CEO of Invision Eye Care Optometry in San Diego. He frequently lectures and consults for Leadership OD.  Dr. Kling graduated from SCO and residency training in Ocular Disease at Omega Eye Care Center in Jackson, TN. He is a member of AOA, COA, and past president of the San Diego County Optometric Society.  Dr.Kling has held several committee positions within COA and served as an expert examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.  Dr. Kling is originally from Indiana, raised in Arkansas and has resided in San Diego for over 20 years.
