Join us  for a special evening as some of the greatest musicians and educators in jazz come together to advocate for what JazzTimes calls, “The hippest move in jazz education, ever”. The Jazz Drama Program presents a special evening to support youth involvement and transformation through jazz. The Jazz Drama Program Annual Gala honors vocal jazz legend Jon Hendricks, the father of vocalese and jazz producer Cobi Narita, a vital force in the jazz community for over 50 years.

"We are super excited to honor one of the greatest jazz singers and composers for jazz singers of all time, Jon Hendricks.  Cobi Narita has been a critical supporter of jazz musicians, especially singers, for decades. Marion Cowings, Kevin Burke, Camille Thurman, Andy Farber, Tom Dempsey, LaFrae Sci, Nicki Parrot, Jazz Drama students and I will be pulling out all the stops to honor the depth and inspiration of these two great legends!" says Artistic Director, Eli Yamin.

Hosted by Good Morning America's Ron Claiborne, the Gala will take place at Mary Cary Flagler Hall at The DiMenna Center, 450 West 37th St, in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 7-9pm. The proceeds benefit The Jazz Drama Program’s education initiatives.

Founded in 2003, The Jazz Drama Program helps young people discover jazz, and blues through school outreach programs, teacher trainings and through its unique socially relevant musicals written especially for young performers. The musicals are offered in schools and community arts organizations throughout the country and around the world. Support for the organization goes towards training 100 young people and 20 teachers from 10 different schools in JDP methods, and releasing a soundtrack recording of Message From Saturn, the space odyssey about the healing power of the blues inspired by Mary Lou Williams and Sun Ra.
