A Practical Approach to Grant Budgets
Developed and Presented by Lisa A. Brown

The City of Beaverton’s Social Services Funding Committee in partnership with the Washington County Nonprofit Network will be hosting a Grant Budget Workshop for Nonprofit Organizations

Writing a compelling proposal is only part of a successful grant application. While it is frequently the last thing to be created (and often the most dreaded component!), the grant budget is the cornerstone upon which your proposal should be built. It defines the type of proposal you’ll be submitting – operating, program, project, etc. – and articulates the financial perimeters for achieving the goals of the proposal. It encompasses all of the activities of the proposal in monetary terms and creates a framework for the financial tracking and reporting required for any resulting grant awards. And it informs funders of your fiscal position and illustrates the financial viability of your request. In other words, it demonstrates that you’ve given thorough consideration to the costs of what you propose, as well as the resources it will take to successfully deliver results. By instituting a proactive and strategic approach to developing grant budgets you will eliminate the mad scramble to put together a budget in the eleventh hour. You will develop protocols for working cohesively and consistently within your organization’s financial systems. And, most importantly, you will strengthen your grant applications.Together, we will explore:
· The alignment of grant opportunities with organizational needs
· The types of proposals appropriate to the opportunity
· What funders look for in a grant budget
· How to build a grant budget from the ground up
· The internal processes and systems needed to support accurate grant budgeting and reporting
· Closing the financial loop on an awarded grant
· Tips and templates for creating your grant budgets

Attendance is encouraged for organizations that would like to apply for City of Beaverton Social Services Funding or the Community Development Block Grant. FREE! But registration is requested.
