FOR PLANT HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS
Tree Valuation Case StudiesTree appraisal is not just applying the formula to a set of tree data to come up with a number. It also includes practical field applications which can pose challenges to the valuation of the tree or group of trees. How do you value stumps? How do you figure the landscape loss when a tree is injured but not killed? What is the value of a forest tree soon to be a part of a landscape? Actual case studies will be discussed.
Trellis Rust and Beech Bark Disease
Dr. David Roberts, Michigan State University
Trellis Rust and Beach Bark Disease are two relatively new, introduced diseases that are spreading in Michigan. These diseases can cause serious problems on their respective host trees, Pyrus sp. and Fagus sp., ranging from severe disfiguring to death. It is important that arborists learn how to recognize these diseases and know their disease cycles so that proper management techniques can be implemented where practical.
Field Tour of Miscellaneous Diseases
Dr. David Roberts, Michigan State University; Dr. Lorraine Graney, Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories
Tree Health Care involves Identification of the patient (example: tree species) and diagnosis of the issues affecting the patient. Once an accurate diagnosis is made, all local factors need to be assessed before remediation of the problem can be attempted. Participants will be asked to share their experiences in this walking tour as we discuss the most effective means of managing our tree problems.
Anatomy of a Production Arborists Day: Reactive Forces and Dynamics
Keith Byville, Bartlett Tree Experts; Lucas Drews,Woodland Tree Service
A day for the climber and ground person. Bringing together technical training and team building. Want a stronger rigging system? Want a stronger team? Build it with sessions on Team building, Communication, Best work practices, Hands on gear components, Ropes and rigging, Forces, Demonstrations and Hands on exercises.
Small Engine Repair Issues
Rick Bellew, Bryan Equipment Sales
The session will begin with an overview of safety features on a chain saw. We will then cover PPE as it relates to OSHA. cover Chain saw Maintenance: Bar , Chain and Sprocket Maintenance and how they interact. Filter inspection and Maintenance Chassis inspection. Fly wheel, Anti Vibration mounts, Covers, Spark plugs. We will speak to fuel quality as well. We will make this generic enough to apply to Climbers or Ground workers mentioning the difference in OSHA rules between each. We do not do chipper shredders.
