Darkness to Light, Stewards of Children

Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training
At Oak Grove UMC, we have and will continue to take measures to ensure that the children and youth entrusted into our care are safe and free to be children and youth.
1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthday. We as volunteers, employees and parents need to know that child sexual abuse prevention and training is an adult's job. Our children need us. They can be empowered with awareness and choice, but the real responsibility for protecting children must be shouldered by adults, ALL adults.
If you are a volunteer or an employee in the children's or youth ministries of OGUMC, it is now mandatory that you take the Darkness to Light, Stewards of Children training. It is the best 2 1/2 hour training program that you will ever receive. (Darkness to Light replaces our former Safe Sanctuaries training). It is truly a gift that will keep on giving. We ask that you complete this training once every 3 years.
This training is also open to the public. If you are a parent, a coach, a teacher, a scout leader, a concerned neighbor, please join us as well. We desire for ALL ADULTS in the Oak Grove neighborhood to be knowledgeable, aware and empowered.
We are offering the training for free to paid staff and members that are volunteers of Oak Grove UMC. There is a nominal fee of $15 for our friends in the community to cover the cost of the workbooks.

The training session will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. We ask that you arrive by 6:15 p.m. Please park in the back of the church, come in through the portico entrance, turn to your left and then take an immediate right, the parlor is on the left.
