Veterans' Voices Literature Workshop for Educators

The Veterans’ Voices Literature Workshop for Educators is a one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity that prepares participants to have meaningful engagement with their students through student-centered classroom strategies. Participants will come away with broadened worldviews, a deeper understanding of military culture, and strengthened relationships with colleagues and Veterans’ Voices literary content. 

The weekend will include:

  • extensive opportunities for educators to learn from and with Veterans
  • training session that models the Shared Inquiry approach to literary education
  • a practical introduction to Veterans literature resources and classroom materials developed by Veterans and educators 
  • reading and discussion with an award-winning poet and Iraq War Veteran 
  • an immersive field trip exploring war memorials on the State Capitol Mall
  • a VocalEssence concert and stage reading featuring poet Brian Turner
