While at PCC, Dr. Howard has presided over the college’s workforce and community development operations. She is now leading the development of the college’s newest comprehensive campus, located in Southeast Portland. The Southeast Campus is PCC’s most diverse, housing lower-division transfer and career/technical programs, as well as the college’s alternative high school programs and its signature “aspirations to college” program, Future Connect.
Dr. Howard grew up primarily in San Antonio, but was born in Bombay, India and lived as a child in Bangkok, Thailand. She also spent a year abroad at King’s College in London during her college years. She considers her international experiences to be formative, as well as her lifelong efforts in the arts.
Christine Martell is an advocate for creative expression as the Principal at VisualsSpeak. She invents ways to engage individuals and organizations using visual tools to deepen communication and reach across differences. Using images elicits different information than words alone, opening up new possibilities and insights. Showing people how we see things similarly and differently helps them to understand us in new ways. Changing the way we communicate reveals new ideas and connections while inspiring empathy.
VisualsSpeak tools are used in over 20 countries in corporations, small business, non-profit, government, education and social services.
Christine holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design and a Master’s Degree in Postsecondary, Adult and Continuing Education from Portland State University. She lives in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Resonate Choral Arts began as a group of amazing, vibrant women who wanted to sing, and has expanded to include an additional teenage women’s chorus at Franklin High school. These Portland, Oregon, women’s choirs asks singers and its director to push their limits in the interest of creating beauty, ease, depth and connection; to grow in skill, self confidence, and capacity for fun!
Resonate has serious ambitions to make the world a little kinder, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our toolkit is vast and eclectic! We use kazoos, ukuleles, stories, movement, homemade props, improv, bingo, and meditation. Our repertoire includes Queen, The Andrew Sisters, traditional and non-traditional folk songs, ethereal harmonies, and Ani DiFranco. There’s beauty and meaning in a lot of stuff, and we strive to keep learning about it and connecting to it in new ways.AAWCC Paint the Night Away Party!!
