Presentation:
The Kansas State University Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB-KSU) is working with a rural community in Guatemala to build an elementary school. Close collaboration with the El Amate community and involved professionals is essential to successfully building a school that will meet the community's social and educational needs. This presentation will focus on the progress of the project, as well as lessons that have been learned about encouraging community ownership and cross cultural interaction.

Speaker:
Danny Preut of KH Engineering Group

Bio:
Danny is a senior in Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University with a structural focus. He grew up out-of-country in Mexico and later China where his parents worked as missionaries. The formative experiences abroad and friendships developed instilled a fascination with different cultures that led Danny to join EWB-KSU in January 2014. He traveled on the January 2015 "assessment" trip to meet the El Amate community and is currently the project lead - in charge of coordinating and helping with design. Danny enjoys learning about structures and plans to pursue a masters in structural engineering after graduation. In his free time he enjoys playing disc golf, soccer, and reading.
