Faith Formation Day 2016 featuring John Roberto

Reimagining Church & Faith Formation in the 21st Century

Much has been written about the challenges facing Christianity and faith formation. How can we address the big challenges? How can we reimagine education in faith with a vision that honors the past and is open to the future? How can we build a new faith-forming ecosystem that supports religious transmission and faith growth? How can we design new models with the best understandings and practices of learning and faith formation? And how can we engage all ages and generations in growing in faith and discipleship for a lifetime?

We are at the dawn of a revitalization of the church’s educational and formational ministry. We can embrace new approaches that provide formation for all ages and generations in our faith communities and out in the world.  We can create new ways to promote religious transmission from generation to generation. We can utilize new thinking about learning and faith formation, and an abundance of new resources and digital media and technologies that can transform the way we share Christian faith.

We will introduce a comprehensive approach to Christian education incorporating five interconnected components:

  • intergenerational faith formation in the congregation,
  • age-group and generational faith formation,
  • family faith formation,
  • missional faith formation to the spiritual but not religious and the unaffiliated,
  • and online and digitally enabled faith formation.

John Roberto is president of LifelongFaith Associates, editor of the journal Lifelong Faith, and works as a consultant to churches and national organizations, teaches courses and conducts workshops in faith formation, and has authored books and program manuals in faith formation. John created the theory and practice of Generations of Faith—an intergenerational, lifelong approach to faith formation.  He is the founder and was director of the Center for Ministry Development.  In addition, John works on the Vibrant Faith team as Special Projects Coordinator involved in research, training, and consulting. His publications include Seasons of Adult Faith Formation (editor and co-author, 2015) Reimagining Faith Formation for the 21st Century (2015), Generations Together: Caring, Celebrating, Learning Praying, and Serving Faithfully (co-authored, 2014), Faith Formation 2020: Designing the Future of Faith (2010), The Spirit and Culture of Youth Ministry (co-authored, 2010), and Becoming a Church of Lifelong Learners (2006).

Join John Roberto in this exciting exploration of present and future at the Diocese of Long Island's 2016 Faith Formation Day.
