COACHES CORNER

Cameron MacLaren

Sailing Director

Cameron has been working with different sailing programs for over ten years as a beginner sailing instructor, race coach, head coach, and program director.  He grew up on Lido Isle and went through the junior program there, and developed his passion for sailing education through high school and college.  In addition to BCYC, he has coached for Lido Isle Yacht Club, Newport Harbor Yacht Club, and Washington Yacht Club in Seattle.  Although he is in his first year as Junior Sailing Director, he has been with BCYC for a cumulative six years and is looking forward to a fun and successful sailing season.

Matt Peter

Head Coach, CFJ Racing

Matt is 24 years old and hails from Boston, Massachusetts.  His extensive coaching experience began at Cape Cod Sea Camps with their learn-to-sail program in 2009.  He then founded the sailing team at Emmanuel College where he studied graphic design and communications.  After graduating he took over the role of Head Coach for his alma mater, in addition to coaching for the Wentworth Institute of Technology Sailing Team and the Boston Latin School Sailing Team.  Recently, he has been coaching for the Harvard Sailing Center as well as the Crimson Sailing Academy in the New England area.  We are very excited and lucky to have Matt join us as our new Head Coach!

Berkeley Green

Junior Mariners

Berkeley Green is a lifelong sailor and keelboat racing skipper with
over two decades of experience as sailing instructor at UC-Irvine and
OCC Sailing. He served as Program Director from 2005 to 2011 at the
Newport Sea Base and was instrumental in developing partner programs,
grant funded fleet purchases and online registration systems. Berkeley
has competed in many Newport-Ensenada races, Shields Nationals and has
sailed 3,500 miles across the Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia as
First Mate on a ninety foot ketch.

Mark Gaudio

Sabot Racing Specialist

Mark is one of the most sought-after race coaches in the region, with a particular specialization in the Naples Sabot.  He won Junior Sabot Nationals in his youth, and continues to dominate Senior Sabot Nationals with over fifteen championship titles.  He has been with BCYC since his days as a junior sailor and continues to give back to his home club.

Robert Bents

Assistant Sabot Racing

Robert Bents began sailing in Newport Harbor strapped in his car seat on his family's Cal 40.   When he got older he raced his Sabot and then moved on to lasers and CFJ's, just finishing his third year on the Mater Dei High School sailing team.

Andrew Luttrell

Assistant Sabot Racing

Andrew Luttrell has been sailing for the past 12 years and will be a freshman at Irvine Valley College this upcoming fall. He has been sailing out of BYC for these past 12 years and has grown up competing and sailing in this bay. Also, Andrew has had lots of experience sailing in many different boats, especially the CFJ in which he won 1st place in the 2011 junior Olympics with skipper Jeff Tolan. He is very excited to be assisting in the CFJ class this summer at BCYC.

Lea Iodice

Sabot Beginners

My name is Lea Iodice and I am from a town called Shrewsbury in Massachusetts. About six years ago I learned how to sail at a local community sailing club where I climbed the ladder from student to instructor. Throughout my three years of teaching I have taught beginnner to intermediate courses for adults as well as the youth summer camp and special programs for children with learning differences. I will be attending College of Charleston in South Carolina in the Fall and I am so excited to spend my summer here at BCYC!
