Metal Clay 104: Mementos in Metal Clay

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

A shell from a trip to the beach, a button from a favorite sweater, a coin from a trip to a foreign land; we all collect small mementos that end up stashed in a pocket or a drawer.  This one day workshop will give you a chance to pull those treasured items out as we learn to cast these treasures in silver and turn them into special pieces of jewelry that can be worn and celebrated.  While Metal Clay 101 is recommended, it is not required.  Students will be introduced to 2-part mold making, casting, embedding fine silver findings, pressure setting stones and patina use.  Please bring a small treasured item that fits in the palm of your hand – something the size of a half dollar or smaller is recommended.  You can also feel free to select a shell or other small item from our basket of treasures.

This all day workshop runs 10-5 with a lunch break. There are lots of places to grab a quick lunch right in the neighborhood or bring your own.

Class fee is $125 plus materials. (approx $30-50)

 ***Materials***

Please purchase your desired amount of metal clay at registration so we are sure to have it for you the day of the class. 20 grams is an ideal amount to explore the possibilities of the clay as you can make a few pieces. 10 grams will be sufficient if you work small.

***Open Studio***

Once you've completed Metal Clay 101 you are welcome to use our Open Studio time to continue your journey.
