AMTA KY Chapter 2015 Fall Meeting

Enhance your Skills With AMTA-KY

Enhance your skills with AMTA-KY  by learning new techniques that will set you apart. Both of these interesting classes can do that.

At our 3rd Annual Fall meeting we will offer pure education that can enhance your skills immediately. Registration includes healthy and delicious snacks and box lunches. There is no business meeting, no formality, just relaxed learning and earning (CE’s of course). This is your chance to get some hands-on education by terrific instructors.

The meeting will be held on October 24, 2015.  The classes will be taught at the Elizabethtown Visitor Center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, conveniently located at exit 94 on I-65.  The location is an easy drive from most parts of the state and is much closer to our western Kentucky therapists.

There are two terrific classes from which to choose. Tina Holsapple, LMT is teaching The Alexander Technique and Massage and Richard Forsting, LMT is presenting Muscle Energy Techniques: From Head to Toe.  By attending one of these classes you can earn 6 hours of hands-on continuing education.

Part of every meeting should be community building and networking.  For this reason we are including box lunches from one of our favorite restaurants - Panera Bread Co. Even better, you can order ahead and have a choice of meals.

Rooms are being held at a nearby hotel, the Wingfield Inn & Suites, for the chapter block rate of $80.00 plus tax. To reserve a room, call before September 24, 2015 and ask for the AMTA group to secure the block rate.

Course Descriptions:

The Alexander Technique and Massage, Tina Holsapple, instructor - 6 CE hours
Massage therapists are in the unique position to bring increased health and relaxation to their clients...but, at what cost to themselves? Do you find yourself exhausted after just one or two sessions? Do you experience pain in your back, neck, shoulders or wrists? Are you wondering how you will maintain a practice long term? Would you like to work less and see increased results in your clients and business?

This six hour workshop will introduce you to the Alexander Technique, a proven self-care method that addresses mind/body issues that cause chronic pain and stress. During this very experiential workshop you will be invited to learn to use your body with grace and ease, understand the underlying cause of most pain and learn skills you can teach your clients to benefit their health and wellbeing.

Materials Needed: Massage table and loose clothing

Tina L. Holsapple M.Ed, LMT  has been a practioner of the Alexander Technique since 1996 and a licensed massage therapist since 1987. In addition, she is a certified Trager practitioner and Aromatherapist and has advanced training in Cranial Sacral Therapy, Touch for Health, Myofascial Therapy, Positional Release, Sports Massage and Healing Energy work. Licensed in Ohio and Kentucky, she is a member of the AMTA-KY chapter. When working with students or clients, Tina uses an integrative, intuitive, whole body approach and shares her knowledge and skills with clarity, humor and grace.

Muscle Energy Techniques: From Head to Toe, Richard Forsting, instructor - 6 CE hours
Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) from Head to Toe is a bodywork-intensive class based partially on the teachings of Leon Chaitow. MET is a “client active” process that brings awareness and possibilities to the client as well as the therapist.  An active client is an engaged client and one who participates in their own healing.

This six hour class will allow therapists to communicate with many muscles during a journey through the body. Anterior, posterior and side-lying techniques will be introduced so the therapist may gain confidence integrating MET during a regular session. Having MET techniques to support your practice will enhance your approach when treating clients with or without specific conditions.

Materials Needed: massage table, linens, bolsters/pillows and lubricant

Richard Forsting, LMT is a 2001 graduate of Louisville School of Massage and has taught at the Louisville School of Massage since 2003.  Richard is a member of the AMTA-KY Chapter and maintains a successful practice in Louisville, KY, using MET with his clients.  Richard also owns and operates Louisville Chair Massage where he educates the public on the powerful benefits of massage.
