Building Resilience: Strengthening Digital Health Systems in West Africa

In 2014, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone were hit hard by the largest Ebola outbreak in history. As of September 11, 2015 more than 11,200 lives have been lost to this terrible epidemic with more than 28,000 suspected or confirmed cases in West Africa. The Ebola epidemic exposed severe weaknesses in existing health information systems in West Africa. Incomplete and under-utilized health information hampered national and international response to the Ebola virus.

Improving the ability to make decisions based on high quality, real-time digital health data is critical to disease control and management and preventing future crises. Join USAID and the Digital He@lth Initiative on Monday, September 21 from 10:00 AM EDT to 11:30 AM EDT for a conversation with experts to learn more about efforts to strengthen health information systems.

Speakers include:

Denis Gilhooly, Executive Director at Global Digital He@lth Initiative

Seema Kumar, Vice President, Enterprise Innovation, Global Health and Science Policy Communications, Johnson & Johnson

Merrick Schaefer, Real-Time Data Lead, U.S. Global Development Lab, USAID

Christopher Fabian, Senior Advisor on Innovation to the Executive Director, UNICEF & Co-founder and Co-lead, UNICEF Innovaiton
