Cultural Competency,
Multicultural Awareness,
and Anti-Racism
in Province I 

 

The Cultural Competency and Multicultural Awareness Task Force is pleased to announce a series of monthly web conferences designed to raise awareness, provide resources, and offer hopeful approaches for talking across difference and celebrating diversity.

The Episcopal Bishops of New England
will launch theTHIRD TUESDAY web conference series
on Tuesday, Sept 15 at 7:30 pm. 

Bishops Stephen Lane (ME), Robert Hirschfeld (NH), Thomas Ely (VT), Douglas Fisher (W MA), Alan Gates (MA), Nicholas Knisely (RI), and Laura Ahrens (CT) will share their awareness of how race and racism are present in their dioceses and offer hopes for how we can work together to stop the violence and hate.

Future topics in the series will include conversations with Heidi Kim, the Episcopal Church's Missioner for Racial Reconciliation; Deacon Janice Grinnell introducing the Diocese of Rhode Island's Center for Reconciliation; the Rev. Bill Kondrath leading a discussion of the Role of Feeling in Racial Justice Work, and James McKim introducing New Hampshire's Diversity Dinners.

To participate, you will need a computer with high speed internet access and a sound card.  Log in information will be sent to those who register below.  

In addition to the monthly webconferences, the task force will be
  • offering tours of and theological reflection about culturally significant sites (The Royall House, The African American Freedom Trail, Native American sites, etc.),  
  • offering a 1.5 day facilitators training November 20-21 and April 22-23 that encourages discussion of difference, leads toward understanding of oppression of many kinds, and promotes racial reconciliaiton,
  • distributing a curated list of resources (readings, films, curricula, etc.) for parish and diocesan formation offerings with commentary from seasoned trainers on how to best utilize them, and
  • supporting host sites for participation in Trinity Institute's Jan 21-23 "Listening for a Change: Sacred Conversatioins on Racial Justice
