National Panelists - Keynote & Moderator

Panel Topic: Medical-Dental Integration: Creating Infrastructure to Better Overall Health

Steven Geiermann, DDS is the Senior Manager for Access, Community Oral Health Infrastructure and Capacity at the American Dental Association, has committed to speaking in the keynote/moderator spot at the NH Oral Health Fall Forum. In addition to his work with the ADA, Dr. Geiermann is secretary of the board of directors with the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA), a former commissioned officer with the U.S. Public Health Service, and a former employee of the City of Chicago Department of Public Health.  

Erin Hartnett, DNP, APRN-BC, CPNP is the program director for the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) and Teaching Oral Systemic Health (TOSH) at the New York University College of Nursing. Dr. Hartnett brings to her role, a wealth of experience as a pediatric nurse practitioner in pediatric neuro-oncology at NYU Hassenfeld Center for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders where she coordinated the Long Term Follow-Up Program for pediatric brain tumor survivors and the oncology clinical rotation in the NYU pediatric dental residency program. Her collaboration there with the dental residents increased her awareness of both the acute and late effects of cancer treatment on children’s oral health which led to her DNP capstone “Integrating Preventive Dental Care in Pediatric Oncology” where she collaborated with key members of the NYU dental school and the Hassenfeld Center to implement an oral assessment and fluoride varnish treatment educational program, to train inter-professional pediatric oncology providers to perform these competencies on children being treated for cancer. Dr. Harnett is a co-author of “Putting the Mouth Back in the Head: HEENT to HEENOT; Am J Public Health. 2015 March; 105(3): 437–441.  

Leslie Ochs, PharmD, PhD, MSPH, is an assistant professor at the University of New England (UNE) School of Pharmacy. Prior to UNE, Dr. Ochs was a clinical pharmacy specialist in at the Mountain Home VA Medical Center, where she developed the medication reconciliation program and provided clinical insight for multidisciplinary care teams. Additionally, she was an adjunct clinical faculty member at the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University where she served as a preceptor for pharmacy students and adult medicine residents. She has served as a pharmacy preceptor at Wingate College of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University College of Pharmacy, UNC-Chapel Hill College of Pharmacy, and South Carolina College of Pharmacy. Dr. Ochs was a member of the VA National Medication Reconciliation Initiative. She has served as a clinical pharmacist in neurology, pediatrics, and neuro- and neonatal intensive care. Her public health faculty appointments include the University of South Carolina and Western Washington University with a focus in epidemiology, community development, program planning and evaluation, women and children’s health, and rural health. She has extensive experience designing, implementing, managing and evaluating large public health programs. Her research interests include health outcomes and medication prescribing patterns in vulnerable populations. 

Timothy Martinez, DMD is joining the leadership team at the University Of New England College Of Dental Medicine following his service as Associate Dean for Community Partnerships and Access to Care in the College of Dental Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Martinez from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1986 with a fifth year concentration in Health Care Administration. He has had extensive experience for over 25 years working in community health center settings treating a variety of underserved patient populations. Dr. Martinez first worked with a migrant farm population in Laredo, Texas through the Loan Repayment Program. He then relocated to Boston working in the inner city community clinics as the dental director for three community clinics: Geiger-Gibson Community Health Center, Boston HealthCare for the Homeless Program, and the South-End Community Health Center. Furthermore, Dr. Martinez was instrumental in setting up three dental centers in the rural part of Massachusetts on the Cape and Islands. Over the past five years, Dr. Martinez served as the Medicaid Dental Director for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts changing regulations crucial to increase dental access for vulnerable populations. In addition, he was hired by the Evaluation Center on HIV and Oral Health Care, from the Boston University School of Public Health as their dental director, to provide dental oversight for 15 oral health demonstration sites throughout the country.
