Over the past five years, Southern SAWG and our partners have helped hundreds of diversified vegetable producers improve their profitability with our “Growing Farm Profits” program. Now the Southern SAWG training team in cooperation with agricultural economists Tim Woods (U of KY) and Kim Morgan (VA Tech) and Farm Credit Council’s Gary Matteson, is offering an in-service training opportunity for farm service providers who would like to build their skills in assisting diversified vegetable farmers with growing their profits. Here’s just a taste of what will be covered:
• Differences between profit management and financial management
• Drivers to profitability
• What data really needs to be tracked
• Evaluating profitability of various crops and various markets
• Analyzing data to determine the impact of decisions
Purpose
Equip Extension personnel, Non-profit leaders, Farm Service agents, Lenders, and other service providers with knowledge, techniques and tools that will allow you to assist small and mid-scale producers of diversified vegetable crops with tracking key farm data, analyzing the data, and making business decisions that help these producers increase farm profitability.
