About the Speaker

Judy Adams is the President and CEO of Adams Home Care Consulting, Inc. For the past 30+ years, Judy has provided a variety of   operational and clinical consultative services to large and small home care and hospice organizations in several states in the eastern half of the United States. She has taught hundreds of teleconferences and day-long workshops on ICD-9 and ICD-10 diagnosis coding, OASIS, home health prospective payment system, coverage and documentation, and a variety of other clinical and regulatory home health and hospice topics for individual agencies, state associations and national organizations. She regularly provides record reviews related to compliance with regulatory and third party payer guidelines for home health and hospice agencies as well as coding and OASIS accuracy reviews. She also served as a member of the Expert Panel to the Board of Medical Specialty Coding and Compliance from 2008-2014.

The challenges presented by the implementation of the ICD10 CM Coding System have been daunting. Learn to accurately use the new code set and work through any challenges already experienced in the implementation! Attend this intensive and highly informative boot camp! Who Should Attend:

Homecare and Hospice Nurses, Therapists, Clinical Supervisors, Administrators, Financial Managers, Quality Improvement Staff, QA Staff and Billing Staff

 

Program Purpose: To enable the learner to correctly apply the ICD-10-CM guidelines and codes to a variety of common home health and hospice diagnoses and conditions within the general body systems.

Learning Objective: 

    1.  Identify key changes in ICD-10-CM structure.
    2. Describe the definitions and uses of at least three ICD-10-CM Conventions and Guidelines
    3. Describe accurate ICD-10-CM codes for factors influencing health status such as aftercare, status, history and attention.
    4. Identify and select accurate codes and appropriate guidelines related to infectious diseases.
    5. Apply correct sequencing guidelines and accurate ICD-10-CM codes to a sample of benign and malignant neoplasm situations.
    6. Identify appropriate codes for disorders of the blood and blood-forming organs.
    7. Demonstrate the correct code for selected diabetes and other selected nutritional codes.
    8. Select and sequence the correct codes for sample situations in the mental health and nervous system chapters, incorporating any chapter-specific guidelines.
    9. Demonstrate accurate coding for select diseases and disorders involving the circulatory system.
    10. Demonstrate correct application of key pulmonary codes such as pneumonia, COPD, asthma and emphysema.
    11. Apply correct ICD-10-CM codes to selected conditions of the digestive system.
    12. Select and sequence correct codes for a variety of disorders of the skin and subcutaneous tissue using chapter-specific guidelines.
    13. Identify and apply accurate ICD-10-CM codes for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
    14. Describe applicable coding guidelines and accurate ICD-10-CM codes for select genitourinary disorders and diseases.
    15. Describe changes in coding injuries and other consequences of external causes in ICD-10-CM and demonstrate correct code selection and sequencing for selected case examples of current and sequela of trauma and complicated situations.
    16. Describe the key differences between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM when coding poisonings, adverse effects and under-dosing.

To gain the most from this class, all attendees must have the current official edition of the ICD-10-CM Coding book.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Cancellations received in writing 10 days prior to the workshop will be subject to a $50 per person administrative fee.             
NO REFUNDS will be issued for cancellations received within 10 days of the workshop.  Refunds will not be made for NO SHOWS.  However, substitutions will be allowed.  Please advise A1HC&S in writing of any cancellation or substitution in advance of the workshop.
