Are you ready to help animals during disasters?

Our new Operations Level Small Animal Emergency Sheltering course has been officially approved by the Florida Department of Emergency Management!

Bay County Emergency Operations Center is hosting the Florida SARC Operations Level Small Animal Emergency Sheltering Class  on April 23-24, 2016 in Panama City, FL


Please join the Florida State Animal Response Coalition team, and with your help, we can be there to provide shelter and care for Florida's animals before, during and after a disaster.

Operations level will give you many new job options, in addition to leadership skills and team lead opportunities.

Tuition for this class has been paid by a generous grant from the Florida Department of Emergency Management. Costs are incurred for each participant who registers. If you register, please honor your commitment to attend.

To be eligible to take this course, you must have proof of the following:

If you have not done so already, please send proof of IS-100 to Pam Burns, Volunteer Director via email at pamburnssarc@gmail.com or fax to 727 474-3644. Once received, you will get a confirmation for the class.

To be fully certified as Operations Level you must also have proof of these courses and requirements prior to being deployed:

  • Animal Handling experience in a shelter or equivalent (10+ hours canine and 10+ hours feline) - state where you did your sheltering hours, dates, and what you did (feeding, cleaning, handling, assisting vet staff, behavior, walking, etc)
  • Pet First Aid and CPR (Red Cross or PetTech, or equivalent
  • Human First Aid / CPR / AED thru Red cross or American Safety Training Institute or equivalent (currently expires every 2 years)
  • Animal Handling Skills and Resume - just a couple short paragraphs to indicate your overall animal handling experience and to include where and when you completed your sheltering experience and tell us a little bit about yourself.

Please note: You must be 18 years or older to take this class!
