Michael will be discussing various accounting and compliance issues that charities face, and will provide helpful solutions for these issues. As well, Michael will provide an update for accounting, auditing and CRA pronouncements for 2015. We will have time for questions.
CRA Charity Audits - A Primer - Charles De Jager - De Jager Volkenant & Company
This workshop will address CRA charity compliance audits. Topics covered will include CRA audit authority, approach and process, audit preparation, audit day, CRA audit findings and possible responses and appeal rights. The workshop will also touch on issues that commonly arise on a CRA audit including inadequate books and records, gifts to non-qualified donees, insufficient direction and control, political activities, private benefit, defective T3010s and improper donation receipts.
New Societies Act Update - Ken Volkenant - De Jager Volkenant & Company
The New BC Societies Act, which will replace our current Society Act, received Royal Assent in May 2015 and is expected to be proclaimed into force within the next 12 months. We will provide an overview of the anticipated “transition process” that every BC society will need to take and some of the key issues that your society should consider in terms of updating governing documents at the time of transition.
