Fall Naturalist Walks

The Yakima Area Arboretum is proud to bring you a fall series of walks and talks with a YAA trained Naturalist. The Naturalist will lead you on a short walk through the Arboretum pointing out interesting phenology changes happening on the grounds. Each walk will last about an hour.  Please wear sturdy walking shoes, bring bottled water and dress for the weather. Oh, and don't forget your camera!

Naturalist Walks Series:

October 18 @ 11 am "Fall Phenology" - Discover why leaves change colors in the fall at this Naturalst Walk led by YAA Naturalist Ken. Meet at the Jewett Interpretative Center at 11 am for a walk and talk through the Arboretum's grounds. This walk will be great for the whole family! After the walk, stop in to see what types of fungi are found in our region at the annual Wild Mushroom Show hosted by the Yakima Valley Mushroom Society from 1 pm to 5 pm.

October 31 @ 10 am "Native Trees of Washinton" - Learn about the different types of trees that are native to the Evergreen State. YAA Naturalist Bob will present a short lesson on Washington's native trees followed by a walk through the Arboretum. Discover what it takes to be a native tree in Washington, why evergreen trees can stay green year long, and some of the special adaptations these trees have to survive. Meet at the Jones Center (at the end of the road past the Jewett Center) for a short lesson before heading out onto the grounds for a nature walk.

November 7 @ 10 am "Fall Colors" - Take a stroll through the Arboretum's spectacular fall color show.  Learn why some trees drop their leaves each fall and others wait until spring.  Discover why some fall colors are spectacular and others not, and why evergreen trees stay green year-round from YAA Naturalist Bob. This walk will begin at the Jewett Interpretative Center at 10 am.

November 7 @ 1 pm "Fall Colors" - Enjoy an afternoon walk led by YAA Naturalist Ken while he talks about apects of fall and why the leaves change colors during this beautiful time of year. This walk will begin at the Jewett Interpretative Center at 1 pm.
