Blacksmithing "101" Workshop

Saturday, November 7th  -- 9:00am to 4:00pm

(Create some hand-forged gift items -- just in time for the holidays!)

Learn the basics of blacksmithing or refresh your skills at this one-day session.

Workshops take place in our own historic forge.

  SKILL LEVEL:   Beginner
  AGE:   18 and over
  STUDENTS:   Maximum of 4
  COST:   $75 — includes all materials
Bring your own lunch –or– order and pick up from The   Spencertown Country Store, just 5 minutes away.
Free coffee will be available throughout the program.
AHS will provide safety goggles.
Course information sheets will be handed out at the workshop.

You will receive clothing recommendations and an Indemnification Agreement via email shortly after registration.


Sample Course Outline

  • Introduction & Topics — History of blacksmithing; shop safety; tools, supplies and materials; maintaining a fire in the forge; how the forge works; techniques, etc.
  • Demonstrations
  • Projects — Wall Hook, Leaf, Bottle Opener (subject to change)
  • Q&A/Wrap-Up
