Using Electronic Health Records and Nursing Assessment to Redesign Clinical Early Recognition Systems

Eric V. Jackson, Jr., M.D., MBA, is Associate Director of the Value Institute at Christiana Care Health System and Director of the Center for Health Care Delivery Science, one of four centers that comprise the Value Institute.
Dr. Jackson joined Christiana Care in 2012 to help launch the Value Institute, a research-based patient-care innovation center established to develop and analyze health care solutions that meet the “Triple Aim” of achieving optimal population health, exceptional patient experience and reducing per capita costs of care for populations.
As Associate Director of the Value Institute, Dr. Jackson’s responsibilities include overseeing integration of clinically connected pragmatic implementation science for all the service lines within Christiana Care. During his tenure, the Value Institute has been tapped to assist with major projects within the health system, including making recommendations about optimal workflow design in Christiana Care’s new $250 million Women’s and Children’s Tower; using electronic health records and nursing assessment to redesign clinical early warning systems; and improving systems of care for vulnerable patient populations.
Under his leadership, the Value Institute has received multi-million-dollar grants and donations, thanks to its burgeoning reputation as a catalyst for institutional transformation. Beyond the walls of Christiana Care, Value Institute staff have contributed to more than 250 publications, sharing ground-breaking research that challenges the status quo and delivers innovative health care policy and practice solutions.
