Who We Are: Junior Achievement USA® is the world's largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economics success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. JA programs are delivered by corporate and community volunteers and provide relevant, hands-on experiences that give students in pre-kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. Last year, Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana served over 125,000 students in 30 counties (27 in northern Indiana, two in Michigan, and one in Ohio).

Volunteering OpportunitiesJunior Achievement is a volunteer driven non-profit organization. We need your help to make sure this event is a big success! Please consider being a volunteer. JA provides all materials and training. JA volunteer training will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd from 12:30-2:00 PM and Friday, March 4th from 2:00-3:30 PM.

If you would like to volunteer for this event, please answer "yes" when prompted on the registration form. If you are unable to volunteer, please consider asking your spouse, relatives, friends, or anyone you know that has a passion for their job and might love to share their experiences with students. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers.

All children who have a parent volunteer as a lead teacher for the JA program (regardless of what age level taught) will attend this event for free! All children who have a parent volunteer to assist the lead program teacher will attend this event at half price.

Q & A:

Q:  What is my committment as a parent?

A: The great thing about JA In A Day is that there are no outside lessons for you to teach prior to the day. Everything is taught the day of the program, so unless you volunteer to help out in the classroom, all you need to do is bring your students to Indiana Tech, check in with us, and let us take care of the rest.

We ask that all students be checked in by a parent or guardian at Indiana Tech no later than 8:30 AM on March 15th. At check-in, you will turn in (or fill out) an emergency contact and photo release form for your students. You will receive an agenda for the day, a campus map, and a nametag for each student. After check-in, there will be a short welcome by Junior Achievement and Indiana Tech staff. After the welcome, students will break out into their groups and begin the JA program.

We would also appreciate your support of this JA program opportunity by signing up as a volunteer in a classroom. If you opt to volunteer by being a lead teacher of the JA program, we will reimburse you for the full cost of the program after completing the JA In A Day. If you opt to volunteer by being an assistant to the lead teacher of the JA program, we will reimburse you for half the cost of the program after completing the JA In A Day.

If you are not volunteering, you are not required to stay on campus during the program.

All JA programs will finish at 1:30 PM. Please check-in with a JA staff member at 1:35 PM to pick up your student(s).

Q:  How do I decide which grade level to pick for my student?

A: Typically, you would choose the grade level in which your student is currently enrolled. If your student is between grade levels and has not participated in a JA program previously, you may choose to select the grade level most appropriate for his or her age, or you may contact Ashley Adamson at 260-484-2543 for help in deciding what program would be the best fit for your student.

Q:  What about lunch?

A: Lunch will be provided for all students and parent volunteers in attendance. If you would prefer to pack a lunch for your student, you are more than welcome to do so. We may also have snacks for the day, so please notify us of any dietary restrictions.

Q: What if we have inclement weather?

A: JA In A Day "Homeschool Edition" will run unless there is to be a Level One Snow Emergency. If we do have a Level One Snow Emergency, we will reschedule the JA In A Day.

Q:  How else can I be involved with JA?

A:  We are always looking for volunteers to help with standard weekly in-school classes, other JA In A Day classes, and JA BizTown® and JA Finance Park® programs. For more information about volunteering and participating in our fundraisers, please visit our website at www.jani.org.
