AGENDA

7:00 AM-8:00 AM Continental Breakfast & Registration

8:00 AM-12:00 PM 1040 UPDATE (4 hours)
The annual Tax Update will prepare you for the upcoming tax season.  We will cover, among other things, the Affordable Care Act, tax legislation that was tacked onto other bills, new IRS regulations that made changes that affect taxpayers and tax professionals, and procedures that have changed due to ID Theft.  Time is also set aside to cover MA  tax season changes.

9:45 AM-10:00 AM BREAK

12:00 PM-1:00 PM LUNCH

1:00 PM-2:50 PM Divorce(2 hours)
Your client is stressed to the limit with a major life changing event. Tax planning is essential, such as property transfers incident to divorce, ramifications of alimony, treatment of medical deductions and the injured and innocent spouse petitions. Lastly, different credits apply qualifying children differently. Let’s help out our clients when we can really make a difference.

2:50 PM-3:05 PM BREAK

3:05 PM-5:00 PM Business Credits and Deductions(2 hours)
There are many business credits that are overlooked. Growing businesses are focused on, well, growing their business. As their tax professional, you can look like a star by saving them money through the use of these business credits and deductions. We'll cover the common like home office and retirement deduction as well as the less common like domestic production activity deduction and R&D credits.

- Home office
- Retirement deduction
- Health insurance deduction, spousal & family allowances, and the credit for starting an HSA
- Work opportunity credit (if Congress decides to extend it, which I doubt)
- Research & development
- Domestic production activity deduction (DPAD)
- New markets tax credit
- Employer provided child care
- Disabled access credit
- Social security tax credit on tips
- Pension Plan Startup
- Alternative vehicles
- Empowerment zone employment
