Topic: To be Lean (or Not?)

APICS Tampa Bay invites all local supply chain, operations management, transportation and logistics professionals to our "To be Lean (or Not?)" workshop on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce, 101 West State Street, Oldsmar, FL 34677.

This one day workshop is structured to provide an interactive environment to discuss “The Master Plan for Implementing Lean” and the many ramifications that can happen during implementation. In addition to providing a road map for implementation, some specific Lean elements as follows will be discussed:

• Value stream mapping
• Pull systems
• Backflushing
• 5-S’s
• Lean culture

Some questions answered in this workshop are:

• Is lean different than JIT?
• Will Lean work in any business?
• How to get started with Lean?
• What are some specific Lean techniques that can be applied easily and quickly?
• Is your Lean implementation progressing or stuck?
• Does Lean work with MRP?

Gerald L. Kilty, CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP is President and founder (1992) of Quality Management Solutions, Inc. (QMS), a consulting and education firm located in Clearwater, Florida.  QMS concentrates on providing companies Operations Management education and specializes in providing practical applications of that education within companies through process improvement.  Jerry has the unique qualification of having been responsible for both the financial and physical elements of inventory.  He has plenty of practical solutions and loves to teach.  Key areas of focus are:

Jerry has a BS degree in Accounting from Ball State University and is recognized by APICS as Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Managemment (CFPIM) Certified in Integrated Resource Management (CIRM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP).
