  • 10:30 - John F. Helmer, Executive Director, Orbis-Cascade Alliance - Leadership and Bold Collaboration in Academic Libraries.

John draws on a career with the Orbis Cascade Alliance and experiences with the International Coalition of Library Consortia to suggest the prerequisites for deep collaboration among academic libraries. Key elements include the role of consortia, membership composition, scale, organizational culture, ambition, personal relationships, entrepreneurial spirit, the buy-in of leadership, pursuit of bold initiatives, and the implementation of shared tools.

  •  1:00 - Law Library Benchmarking Project - Teresa Miguel-Stearns, Yale Law School, Lillian Goldman Law Library

Teresa will present the Law Library Benchmarking Project that Yale, Harvard, Berkeley, Cornell and U Michigan have been developing since 2014. At the Fall 2015 NELLCO Board of Directors meeting, the Board voted to partner with these institutions to create a benchmarking tool that could have widespread impact on the ways in which law libraries collect and manage operational data. That project has been named ALLStAR: Academic Law Libraries: Statistics, Analytics and Reports.

    • Working session on the reference part of the Law Library Benchmarking Project
    • Choosing one or two collaborative projects for the Reference IG to work on in the year ahead
    • Discussion on the usefulness of the Symposium
      1. Utility of the current format 
      2. Changing/settling on a future format
      3. Determining what kind of reference-oriented programing the IG should engage with
    • General discussion of current topics
