Segment 1:
"When Too Much Is Not Enough… Ethics Of Disclosure In Therapy" presented by Deborah Schiller, LPC, CSAT-S, CMAT

Learning objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe how to increase therapeutic effectiveness through appropriate preparation of clients and their partners for disclosure.
  2. Participants will discuss the therapeutic usage of polygraphs in the context of formal disclosure.
  3. Participants will identify ethical and legal considerations in the disclosure process.

Deborah Schiller is the Program Director of Gratitude (formally known as "Gentle Path"), a Pine Grove Program. She is a native of Huntsville, AL, where she completed three years of study at the University of Alabama in Huntsville before finishing her degree at Montevallo University in Montevallo, AL. Ms. Schiller taught School in Selma, AL for three years before getting her Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Stanford, University in Stanford, CA. She began her family in New York City and taught in schools in Boston, MA, Huntsville, AL, and Redlands, CA. While raising three children, she returned to school, receiving her second Masters degree from The University of South Alabama, Baldwin County, AL, this time in Counseling. Ms. Schiller completed an Internship at The Meadows Treatment Center in Wickenburg, AZ and became a Therapist there. In 2004, Ms. Schiller joined Pine Grove and the Professional Enhancement Program as a Clinical Therapist. She has since worked at Pine Grove's Gratitude Program as Primary Therapist, Clinical Director, and is the current Program Director.

Segment 2:
"Professionalism in the Digital Age" (Part I) presented by Leah Claire Bennett, Ph.D.

Learning objectives:

  1. Participants will discuss the importance of establishing and maintaining boundaries within their work setting.
  2. Participants will explain what defines professionalism and responsibilities and their role as a professional.

Leah Claire Bennett, Ph.D. is the Program Director and Licensed Psychologist with the Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) at Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Baylor University in Waco, TX and her Masters and Doctorate degrees in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Dr. Bennett has experience with the local county Drug Court program, Pine Belt Mental Healthcare, the University Counseling Center, and the VA. Dr. Bennett has worked with the Professional Enhancement Program since 2005 where the focus is working with professionals with vocational and relational issues, maladaptive personality problems, addiction, disruptive workplace behavior and sexual issues. She continues outpatient individual and group therapy as well focusing on addiction and vocational issues.

Segment 3:
"Professionalism in the Digital Age" (Part II) presented by Sally Moody, LCSW

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify and discuss professionalism, ethics, and boundaries.
  2. Participants will be able to discuss implications of social media in the realm of communication, ethics, and professional boundaries.
  3. Participants will be able to know their profession’s ethical standards, as they pertain to social media.
  4. Will review the Code of Ethics for MFT, LPC, and MSW.
  5. Participants will be able to list ways in which they can enhance their ethical professionalism with social media.
  6. Participants will be able to use concepts to apply to case examples of ethical professionalism and boundaries.

Sally Moody is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Therapist with the Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) at Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services. She received her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS and her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Denver in Denver, CO. Moody has experience with chemical dependency case management with Arapahoe House, Inc. and in evaluating and monitoring medical professionals with the Colorado Physician Health Program, both in Denver, Colorado. She previously worked with Pine Grove's Legacy program developing, implementing, and treating addiction in adults age 55 and older.

Segment 4:
“When is Enough, Enough? Understanding and Managing Stress and Burnout" presented by Russell Rainey, LPC

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify the physical, mental and emotional symptoms of stress and how it affects the workplace.
  2. Participants will be able to list common factors that lead to anger and coping strategies to use when anger becomes a problem in the workplace.
  3. Participants will be able to list and define three types of burnout and discuss ways to combat burnout in today’s profession.

Russell Rainey is the Director of the Legacy program at Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services. Rainey completed his Bachelor's degree in Religion and Biblical Studies and Language before earning his Master's degree in Counseling Psychology at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Rainey holds a license in Professional Counseling and has over 10 years of experience in the addiction treatment field. Prior to joining Legacy, Russell Rainey served as the Clinical Director of Pine Grove’s Next Step treatment program for men.

  5. Some of the material covered is of a sensitive nature about addictions, ethical dilemmas and/or other clinical disorders.

Target Audience and Level: This is an intermediate level talk geared toward mental health practitioners and supervisors (e.g., psychologists, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists and nursing staff).

Refund/Cancellation Policy: If on the day of the talk, an attendee feels that the workshop is not what was advertised, or in the event of a cancellation of the workshop, the participant shall receive a full refund for fees paid.
